1. Project Creation and Design Space Overview (11 min):
- Start a new project, assign a name, set the location, and add optional customer details.
- Familiarize yourself with the design space, help resources, and tools.
- Video: Project Creation Overview
2. Load & Align Reference Layers (2 min):

- Toggle on the LiDAR layer, adjust its elevation, and align it with the base map.
- Load the Google 3D layer and compare its alignment with LiDAR.
- Video: Load Lidar/Google3d
- Docs: Reference Layers
3. Draw House Roof Segments (3 min):
- Using LiDAR and/or Google 3D as a guide, draw all segments of the main house roof.
- Adjust height and pitch accurately, utilizing the snapping feature.
- Video: Draw Roof Segments
- Docs: Creating Outlines
4. Define Keepout Areas (4 min):
- Draw keepouts on roof surfaces for obstructions (vents, chimneys) and setbacks.
- Use appropriate shapes and size them correctly. Note: Add fire setbacks manually.
- Video: Fill in Keepouts
- Docs: Creating Keepouts
5. Draw nearby houses if they are large and will cast shade (2 min):
- Identify potential shading from nearby structures.
- Either:
- a) Draw neighboring roof surfaces (repeating steps 3 & 4), OR
- b) Use the Google 3D layer directly for shading analysis in the next step (recommended for efficiency).
- Video: Neighbor Shading/3D Shading
6. Add Trees for Shading OR toggle Lidar/Google3D Shade (4 min):
- If trees cause significant shading
- Add them using the Import trees library:
- Video: Plant Trees
- Docs: Import Trees
- OR If lidar/google 3d layers look accurate enough for the current shading
- Toggle Lidar / Google 3D Setting for 'Include in viewshed shading analysis' setting. https://help.scanifly.com/reference-layers
- Now that layer is used for shading and you only need to import trees if not shown in that layer
- Add them using the Import trees library:
7. Place and Adjust Solar Panels (5 min):
- Lay out solar panels on the available roof space.
- Fill Modules and Viewsheds for layout and production
- Default mode is "Dynamic" Can adjust and fill roof
- Can toggle into "Manual" mode for full control over your layout
- Video: Adjust Solar Layout
- Docs (Pro):Creating Arrays
8. Review Project Data & Export (2 min):
- Review the completed design and key project statistics (output, system size, module count).
- Access and export necessary data, including shade reports for proposals.
- Video: Review Project Details
